Bureaus

The NYPD is structured around bureaus and major offices that contain the department's enforcement, investigative, and administrative functions. Each bureau is headed by a chief or deputy commissioner who is appointed by the Police Commissioner and oversees the numerous functions of his or her divisions, units, and squads.
